Summer in the Country!

Summer in the Country! offers enrichment activities to challenge and stimulate as well as provide enjoyment for children. Summer in the Country 2010 offers classes on Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays for children ages 2½ through 12.


The Montessori Mom

Creating a Montessori environment at home is not difficult. This class is for mothers with toddlers who want to learn how to set up the kitchen, bathroom and child’s bedroom so that your child can learn to be comfortably independent. Register soon. Class size is limited.

Montessori for the Young

Help your student prepare for school in the Fall! Maria Montessori viewed “Practical Life” as the most critical area of the classroom to help children order their environment. Choosing work, completing a task, and returning it to its original place completes the “work cycle.” Making bubbles, washing tables, sorting, spooning, sifting, and painting are among the activities that enchant the child at this age.

Fitness Fun

Children love to go outside to play! This organized play will provide the students with skills for good sportsmanship and tools for teamwork.

Children will be immersed in the Spanish culture during this Summer course which will include more than speaking the language. Songs, games, storytelling and crafts will provide opportunities to connect with the traditions of Spanish speakers.

Underwater Life

The ocean is a delicate ecosystem. Discover the different mammals, fish and plants that live in the ocean. Children will identify causes of pollution and what we can do to prevent it, as well as ways to conserve water. Underwater life will be available for enjoyment during the class. In depth observation will take place while on a field trip to Sea World.

The Sounds of Music

Music Education through the Orff Schulwerk approach uses poems, rhymes, games, songs, and dances to facilitate success. Spoken or sung, they may be accompanied by clapping, stamping or by drums, sticks, and bells. Parents can look forward to seeing the class progresses with an end of session performance.

Around the World in 6 days: Travel & Cuisine

Grab your passport, let’s go! The children in this class will visit with children from other countries via skype. Cambodia, Columbia, Palestine will fascinate these travelers when they learn customs, geography, and children’s way of life. After the travelers have studied about these countries, they will prepare a traditional meal from that country. This trip also coincides with the Folklife Festival.
